Calming Essential Oils Like Lemon Balm and Melissa

Calming Essential Oils for anxiety
There are thousands of articles researching the benefits of therapeutic grade essential oils.  Melissa officinalis is no exception.  This rare oil is highly beneficial and has been found effective in research involving Alzheimer’s patients, children with nervous dyskoimesis (trouble falling asleep), and stressed adults. Emotional stress can impact our body’s immune system. When you drink Lemon Balm Tea, it can be supportive of a healthy immune system as you bring on some calm in your day.

Therapeutic Grade Melissa essential oil comes from the melissa officinalis plant, in the mint family. It’s commonly called “lemon balm” and   it is steam distilled from the aerial parts before flowering.  Historically it has been used for nervous disorders, to promote fertility and in Munich, Dr. Dietrich Wabner, a professor at the Technical University in Munich found it effective against the Herpes Simplex virus.  It may be helpful for depression, viral infections, anxiety and insomnia.  Diffuse 1-2 hours up to 3 times a day, apply to the skin or Vita Flex points to support the immune system.

Lemon Balm is a hearty plant and spreads rapidly when in hot, dry conditions. The essential oil is very expensive because it takes so much plant material to create a small amount of essential oil. If you are fortunate to have a wild patch of Lemon Balm in your yard, you can make a tea from it. The tea is tasty cold as it has a gentle lemon-like flavor.

While there are common essential oils known for their calming effects, like

VALERIAN, FRANKINCENSE, SANDALWOOD, CHAMOMILE, and RUTA GRAVEOLENS,

Other essential oils that may calm your psyche include any that resonate with your personality. Peppermint essential oil is typically a stimulating essential oil, but I had one client who swears by it at bedtime for her kiddos. The amazing property of essential oils is the quality to build memory into our daily routines. If you use any appealing essential oil at bedtime and it helps you fall asleep, that oil has the potential to be your go to choice for calming down when you need it. Do you have a calming essential oil blend or single you use that isn’t on my list? Leave your thoughts in the comments, I’d love to hear what is working for you!
